Python Environments

Manage Python versions, virtual environments and dependencies without leaving your IDE. Python Environments brings installed interpreters, project environments and packages into one tool window, connected to PyCharm's native interpreter settings and code insight.

• Packages first: browse installed packages, install or update a package, and run your project's native dependency workflow.
• Know your environment: see SDK names, Python versions, paths and disk usage. Inspect matching project, module and Run/Debug references.
• Choose your Python: browse available versions, install an interpreter and create an environment at your chosen location.
• Keep your tools: use uv, pyenv, mise, asdf, Homebrew, Python Install Manager, Conda, Mamba or Micromamba where supported by the host.
• Use native dependency managers: pip, uv, Poetry, Pipenv, PDM, Hatch, Pixi and pip-tools workflows keep their own environment and manifest rules.
• Protect installations in use: removal checks known IDE and environment references and verifies the owning manager.

Python and dependency managers are selected independently. Automatic detection explains ambiguous evidence; executable paths and manager setup live in Settings. Missing uv and Unix pyenv can be installed from the plugin; other managers retain their official installer.

Open View > Tool Windows > Python Environments in a Python-enabled IDE. Select an existing environment or create one, then use Packages, Environments and Python versions.

Commands run on the project host. Docker, WSL and SSH interpreter adapters are not included. Removal checks cover known references, not every closed project or running process.
